Create a spooky yet delicious Spider Web Pizza that’s perfect for Halloween. This unique pizza features a chewy crust topped with savory pizza sauce, melted low-moisture mozzarella cheese, and an intricate spider web design made from full-fat sour cream. Jumbo black olives complete the look as creepy spiders, making it both a festive centerpiece and a tasty treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Dough

  • 1 pound (about 16 ounces) store-bought or homemade pizza dough

Pizza Sauce

  • ¾ cup of your favorite pizza sauce or marinara

Cheese and Toppings

  • 2 ½ cups low-moisture, whole milk shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1 can (6 ounces) jumbo black olives, pitted

Optional

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, for brushing the crust
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal, for dusting the pizza pan

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to about 12 inches in diameter. If desired, sprinkle cornmeal on the pizza pan to prevent sticking, then transfer the dough to the pan. Optionally, brush the crust edge with olive oil for a golden finish.
  2. Apply sauce: Spread a thin, even layer of pizza sauce evenly over the rolled dough, leaving about a one-inch border around the edges for the crust. Avoid over-saucing to maintain the integrity of the cheese and web design.
  3. Add cheese: Generously sprinkle the shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese over the sauce, covering the surface completely to create a white canvas for the spider web design.
  4. Create spider web design: Fill a squeeze bottle or a small plastic bag with the full-fat sour cream and snip off a small corner. Starting from the center of the pizza, pipe concentric circles of sour cream outwards over the cheese. Using a toothpick or skewer, drag lines from the center outward through the sour cream circles to form the web pattern.
  5. Add spiders: Use whole black olives as spider bodies. Slice olives thinly lengthwise to create legs, placing them next to the whole olives to resemble spider legs on the web.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Bake the pizza on the middle rack for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden, the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the sour cream web holds its shape.
  7. Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, slice carefully, and serve the spooky spider web pizza to delighted guests.

Notes

  • Use low-moisture, whole milk mozzarella cheese for the best melt and appearance.
  • Do not substitute low-fat or fat-free sour cream, as it will not hold its shape when baked.
  • Adjust baking time based on your oven; watch for golden crust and bubbly cheese.
  • Sourcing jumbo black olives with pits facilitates creating spider bodies and legs.
  • For a time saver, store-bought dough is perfectly fine without sacrificing flavor significantly.
