This Italian Stromboli is a savory, cheesy, and flavorful rolled pizza filled with layers of ham, salami, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese, seasoned with Italian herbs and baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a hearty appetizer or a satisfying main course, it combines the rich flavors of deli meats with a crispy crust and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust and Sauce

  • 1 Refrigerated Pizza Crust (about 13 oz)
  • 1 Jar of Pizza Sauce (approximately 1 cup total, divided)

Meats

  • 1/4 lb Thinly Sliced Deli Ham
  • 1/4 lb Sliced Deli Salami
  • 1/4 lb Sliced Deli Pepperoni

Cheese and Seasoning

  • 3 Cups Grated Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted
  • Garlic Powder (to taste)
  • Dried Parsley (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s fully heated by the time your Stromboli is ready for baking.
  2. Prepare the Crust: Roll out the refrigerated pizza crust onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush approximately 1/4 cup of pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the dough.
  3. Layer the Fillings: Begin by layering the thinly sliced deli ham over the sauce, followed by sprinkling 1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese. Add a layer of salami and a bit more cheese, then top with pepperoni and the remaining cheese. Finally, sprinkle the Italian seasoning evenly over the fillings.
  4. Roll and Seal: Carefully roll the pizza dough tightly around the fillings from one edge to the other. Pinch all the seams closed securely to prevent the fillings from leaking out during baking.
  5. Add Toppings and Prepare for Baking: Brush the melted butter all over the top of the rolled Stromboli. Sprinkle garlic powder and dried parsley generously over the buttered surface. Cut a few slits on top of the crust to allow steam to escape while baking.
  6. Bake: Place the Stromboli in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and crispy.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the Stromboli sit for 5 minutes. This resting period helps the cheese to set, making it easier to slice. Cut into portions and serve warm with extra warmed pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper or a non-stick baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  • You can substitute deli meats with your preferred alternatives or omit to make vegetarian stromboli.
  • For extra flavor, try adding sautéed onions or bell peppers inside the roll.
  • Ensure the seams are tightly sealed to avoid filling leakage.
  • Letting the stromboli rest before slicing prevents the cheese from oozing out excessively.
  • Adjust garlic powder and parsley according to taste preference.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven for a crispy finish or microwaved for convenience.
